A village in the city
In Oud-Berchem, one of Antwerp’s most charming neighbourhoods, we are building a small village in the city. Hill Yard will be a peaceful oasis in the busy city by the Scheldt. Its central location in a nice, lively neighbourhood with all amenities nearby is the main selling point of this high-end newbuild development.
A versatile residential development
Hill Yard gives the old Buga Auto site in Berchem a new lease of life:
we are building 38 newbuild apartments (4 storeys) and 1 commercial space in Frans van Hombeeckplein. The building also has an entrance to the courtyard.
The architects haven chosen to retain part of the existing volume in Grotesteenweg. Another part of the building will be demolished to make way for a 4-storey newbuild with an additional roof layer for a penthouse with a terrace.
In Klauwaardsstraat, the architects have added 4 new, smaller building volumes with 4 storeys, which are seamlessly integrated into the existing streetscape.
There will also be 20 single-family dwellings with a private garden in the courtyard. These homes give out onto a large public outdoor space with lots of green plantings.
An extremely comfortable and sustainable home
One of the main premises of our Hill Yard project was to build a sustainable development. We selected quality building materials only for a high-end finish, the development’s energy score is in accordance with the strictest standards in force (E40-E36), and all the homes will be fitted with the latest smart home automation systems. There are also sufficient parking spaces for cars and bicycles.
Attention to light, privacy and green space
Although POLO Architects has created a serene design with a limited number of materials, each building has its own identity. The light colours contrast beautifully with the green of the new public space and private gardens. The various building volumes have been positioned to ensure that they don’t face each other directly, guaranteeing maximum privacy for residents and bright homes with expansive views that you never tire of.
“Previously an inaccessible, closed and isolated building block, with a style that was different from the rest of the neighbourhood, it has since been transformed into a green and diverse urban living and office development that opens out onto the street and the neighbourhood.”

Parks and more parks
There are six parks around Hill Yard. Nachtegalenpark has a great playground and brasserie. Then there’s Domein Hertoghe and Albertpark. As you walk towards the Singel, you will run into Villegaspark and the Wolvenberg nature reserve. If you’re looking for a fun spot for a picnic, head to the pond in Brilschanspark. In the near future, Villegaspark, Wolvenberg and Brilschanspark will be combined into a giant, 42-hectare park (larger than Park Spoor Noord and Middelheim!). The new Brialmontpark will become the green heart of Berchem!
Child-friendly and great for sports
Besides the low emission zone (healthy air!) and its many parks, Oud-Berchem has several other assets for families with children. The neighbourhood is home to several schools, an art academy, nurseries and sports facilities, making it a great place to live for children and their parents... Better yet, everything is within walking or biking distance.
Excellent mobility
Hill Yard offers excellent access to everything. The Singel and the slip road to the ring road are nearby. There is a tram and bus stop on your doorstep. You can get to the city centre in just 15 minutes. Want to go somewhere by train? Walk down Driekoningenstraat and Statiestraat to Berchem Station. It takes about 15 minutes on foot and just 5 minutes by bike. Don’t have a bike?
No need to worry. There is a Velo bike sharing station in Frans van Hombeeckplein, within walking distance.
